AL83@delphi.com 6/23/95 Waterloo Village - Stanhope, NJ I. II. Simple Runaway Jim---> Chalkdust Torture space---> Prince Caspian Lizards Reba The Wedge Ginseng Sullivan Antelope Free Harpua---> Taste Waterloo*^---> You Enjoy Myself Llama^ Good Times Bad Times E: A Day In The Life * - first time, ABBA cover ^ - with JOHN POPPER on harmonica!!! first off, lemee tell you what a bitch it was getting in... so much of one in fact that we had to walk 5 miles from the parking lot to the stage area and missed all of the first set. we parked and began to walk... we met up with several "security" people pointing us away saying we were only a mile away... some many miles and an hour and a half later we could hear a bass solo rumbling out of the woods... we shrugged... then seconds later "wash Uffize drive me to Firenze" (or whatever) we made it in for set 2... it opened with Runaway Jim... by all accounts they were attempting to do what they did the other night, without much success. during one of the solo's Trey hinted at the outro solo from Down With Disease. a weird spacey jam with Page and Trey each going different directions... it seemed Page wanted to play Feed/Theme and Trey wanted Lizards... Trey had his way. the Wedge was next... i dislike this tune... that's just me... a STRANGE Antelope followed... the band was on but whenever Trey seemed like he should be soloing... he didn't... when he did it was atonal and weird... spacey... Trey seems to be real into that stuff this tour. during the Rye Rye Rocco section Trey paused before the word "spike" and the rest of the band yelling SPIKE in a beavis and butthead voice. OM-PAH-PAH, OM-PAH-PAH... i phreaked... Harpua... in gamehendge... the old man gets dragged back into town by some weird force... (not the Vib. Of Life)... there was no mention of Poster Nutbag, nor was there a fight or anything else... it was incomplete... but who cares? not i... Jimmy puts on an old record he finds... by the sweedish supergroup ABBA... Waterloo (the name of the song)... (shlocky 70's pop)... Jimmy soon decides that it sucks... so he decides he needs some harmonica... fuck the horns... the big man himself saunters out onto stage and promptly puts an end to those rumors... lemee tell ya, he blows a mad harp... Popper is THE shit... after a bit of jamming they began to segue... i was hoping for Gloria (anyone familiar with older BT live sets can tell you why) or Don't Get Me Wrong (Popper's collaboration w/ Trey) but it slowly but surely moved into Llama... after that the harp became buried in the mix... bummer... GTBT followed that - always a treat... but, that was the end of the set... really really short... i was pretty pissed... i mean, if you have John Popper in the house exploit his talents to the fullest! the encore was a nice Day In The Life... my first time hearing it... i bet they finish all the unfinished Tweezers as well as Harpua at the end of the tour... see ya, jesse :) ps. a few more things... i don't give a shit if your a phish head, deadhead, airhead, bonehead, melonhead, rastahead, noodlehead, puffhead, givehead, or even Fluffhead - DON'T COME TO THE SHOW WITHOUT A TICKET!!!! simple... there were tickets left for tonights show (though there shouldn't have been - it was oversold by about 12,000 people...) - yet i still saw AT LEAST 100-200 miracle seekers... pss. i'm never going back to Waterloo again... it was such a problem getting in and out... on the way there we didn't even know about the shuttle buses... on the way back it took us 2 hours
