10/10/94 Palace Theater, Louisville, KY (Rvwd 3/95) Perhaps one of the worst shows I've ever heard, I recycled the first
set after one listen, and have kept the second set around because the DWD is really very, very sweet (the jam, in my opinion)
and because I knew I'd have to review the Tweezer. I will probably just dub the DWD somewhere else and recycle this set,
too. The version of Tweezer is probably the most mind-bogglingly lame version I have heard. The opening segment is more dull
than Silas Marner, with absolutely nothing exciting, interesting, noteworthy, meaningful, significant, curious, original, savory, etc.
You hear this opening lyric segment and you think "Damn -- I DON'T want to hear what comes next!" The beginning of the jam
segment, though, does have a GREAT theme, very tweezeresque in its eerie progression, with several spooky sharps.
Eventually, the jam gets very repetitive and dissonant, and sounds more lame and more shitty than even the worst dissonance
jam you have ever heard. Well, come to think of it, I think I prefer dissonance when it is outrageously dissonant... so, I guess
this wasn't as groovily dissonant as it could have been. It was an imposter-dissonance, a faux-dissonance that just sounded
terrible. When the jam finally breaks out of dissonant mode, it sounds INCREDIBLE simply because you're free of having to
listen to the noise. Unfortunately, this feeling lasts very briefly, as the jam kinda stops grooving and just gets really spacey.
VERY spacey. Nothing happens, except Mike may have started screwing off with that fretless bass or whatever the hell you
call that thing.. there is some really weird low loud noise coming through on the tapes. Soon, Fish starts getting antsy with this
spacey bullshit (thank god), and eventually, the jam leaves this mold and returns to a real swayin', typically tweezeresque
groove. This is a very curious version. This is a very evil, Halloween-ish version.. lots of off key sharp stuff. Definitely an evil
Tweezer, but not in the sense of "good." Typical dying out ending. I just didn't like this version at all. Overall, it is easily my least
favorite version. Over 17 minutes, but lame. Dull. 1.5 rating. (F) Boooooo!!!!! I'm positive that some of you would appreciate
it, though.. it certainly isn't typical in many ways. two cents charlie
